Performance tips
- Embrace the Dynamics: The song starts as a sparse, moody acoustic-style vocal and builds into a high-energy rock scream; save your vocal energy for the explosive final minute to avoid burnout early on.
- Master the "Coda" Timing: The final section features backwards vocals and rain sounds; unless your karaoke track has specific cues, use this time for dramatic stage presence or a slow exit, as there are no "singable" forward lyrics after roughly the 3:00 mark.
- Commit to the Character: This is a theatrical performance piece; don't be afraid to lean into Prince's signature growls and breathless delivery to capture the "sex fiend" energy of the lyrics.
