The original recording of the spooky R&B novelty written and produced by Bob Geddins, a local hit for Johnny Fuller in 1958. Jumpin' Gene Simmons took it to the top 20 in 1964, and Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs covered it in 1965.
Performance tips
- Sing it as a nervous first-person story; the humor comes from playing scared.
- Keep the shuffle groove loose and bluesy.
- Add a few frightened asides between lines for the crowd.
