Frank Sinatra's 1957 cover of the Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane song introduced by Judy Garland in Meet Me in St. Louis, recorded for A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra. Sinatra asked Martin to brighten one line for this version, and the revised lyric became the one most singers use; he had earlier recorded the original lyric in the 1940s.
Performance tips
- Croon it slow and intimate; let each phrase breathe.
- Sinatra leans on the lyric, so tell the story more than you show off the voice.
- Keep the dynamics gentle and swell only near the end.
