Dark barroom waltz by Tom Waits; this recording appeared on the Shrek 2 soundtrack in May 2004 and was later collected on Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards (2006). An earlier, different recording was on The End of Violence soundtrack in 1997.
Performance tips
- Growl it low and gravelly like a drunk carnival barker; polish is the enemy here.
- Sway with the slow waltz feel and let the phrases slur a little.
- Play the sinister lounge-singer character and lean on the mic stand for the room.
