Live rock version of the 1934 Coots and Gillespie standard, recorded by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at C.W. Post College in Greenvale, New York, in December 1975. It was first released in 1981 on the children's compilation In Harmony 2 and later as the B-side of My Hometown.
Performance tips
- Play it like a live show: banter with the crowd and tease them about being naughty or nice.
- Give it gravelly Jersey rock energy and leave room for a Clarence-style sax moment.
- Get the crowd answering you on the hook; the call-and-response is the whole fun.
